Learners gaining this qualification will know that cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillation are an essential part of the chain of survival. How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

This qualification is usually achieved by taking a half-day (4 hours) classroom-based course.

How is the qualification assessed?

The qualification is assessed using the HABC assessment pack and is split into two component parts

  • Part one: This component is assessed through practical demonstration of first aid skills.
  • Part two: This knowledge based assessment requires learners to answer a series of short answer questions either via written responses or oral questioning.

This qualification is usually achieved by taking a one-day (6 hours) classroom-based course.

How is the qualification assessed?

This qualification is partially assessed via practical observation, and by one of the following options:

  1. Option 1 – Open Response Assessment
    Learners must provide a short response to questions, either written or oral, across the breadth of the course syllabus throughout the duration of the course.
  2. Option 2 – Multiple-Choice Assessment
    Learners must answer a series of multiple-choice questions across the breadth of the course syllabus.

This qualification is intended for learners already working or preparing to work in the industry and to provide candidates, who are responsible for the welfare of infants and children, with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to support basic first aid including and the use of an automated external defibrillator.

Learners gaining this qualification will know that First Aid is the responsibility of everyone involved in the working environment. Topics within this qualification include: understanding the role of the paediatric first aider; assessing emergency situations and acting safely and effectively; providing first aid for an infant and a child: who are unresponsive and breathing normally and who are unresponsive and not breathing normally; who are wounded and bleeding, who are suffering from shock and the safe use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

Fire Safety Qualifications:

This qualification is aimed at staff, particularly new starters in any workplace, where a basic understanding of fire safety is required.  Learners gaining this qualification will know that fire safety is the responsibility of everyone in the workplace and will recognise the contribution they have in preventing the starting and spread of fires.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

The total qualification time (TQT) for this qualification is 5 hours  and of this 4 hours are recommended as guided learning hours.

TQT is an estimate of the total number of hours it would take an average learner to achieve and demonstrate the necessary level of attainment to be awarded with a qualification, both under direct supervision (forming guided learning hours) and without supervision (all other time). Health and Safety Qualifications:

This qualification is designed for learners who work in the construction industry.  This qualification includes training in areas such as: working at height, excavations, fire safety, welfare facilities, confined spaces, personal protective equipment (PPE) and first aid requirements.

The qualification covers: roles and responsibilities of a site operative, fire safety procedures, manual handling, working at height, working in confined spaces, basic lifting operations, working with hazardous substances and working in noisy environments.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

The total qualification time (TQT) for this qualification is 3 hours or ½ day.

How is the qualification assessed?

It is assessed by a multiple-choice examination, where the learner must answer at least 10 out of 16 questions correctly.  The examination will take a maximum of 30 minutes to complete. Learners who achieve a pass mark of 13 or above correct answers (80%) will be awarded a merit.

Risk Assessment Qualifications:

TThe HABC Level 2 International Award in Risk Assessment is a qualification suitable for anyone working in any environment who need to be more risk aware by raising their knowledge of risk in the workplace and basic things they can do to control it.

This qualification is designed to be an introduction to the principles of Risk Assessment. It covers why risk assessments are necessary including the main causes of workplace fatalities, injuries and ill health, the role of risk assessment in the prevention of accidents and ill health and simple processes for carrying out a risk assessment.

  1. Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) Paper

    This method of assessment is a multiple choice exam (MCQ), containing 15 questions that will follow the Highfield Security and Invigilation Guidelines. Successful learners will have to achieve a minimum pass mark of 9 correct answers (60%). Learners who achieve a pass mark of 12 (80%) correct answers or above will achieve a Merit.

The HABC Level 3 International Award in Delivering Training (IADT) qualification is designed for internal or external trainers who wish to improve their training skills.

Subjects covered include effective training, effective use of slide presentations and other training materials, effective session planning and time management, catering for different learning styles, managing groups and individuals, effective question techniques and assessment methods. The HABC IADT is primarily concerned with practical competency of trainers.

How long will it take me to achieve this qualification?

It is recommended that this qualification is held over 2 days (12 hours), however it may be combined with other technical qualifications over a longer period.

How is the qualification assessed?

This qualification is assessed by:

  • Observation report: Learners must practically demonstrate the delivery of either 1 or 2 session(s) totaling 30 minutes.
  • Tutor/candidate discussion: Learners are required to demonstrate a sufficient level of knowledge and understanding relating to their micro-teaching session.
