Advanced Alarm Management

Alarm Management is a key element in managing the operational risk of every facility. However, poor handling of the alarm systems – plagued by alarm floods, inaccurate alarms, and suppressed alarms – will diminish situation awareness and continue to negatively impact plant production and safety. An effective alarm system optimization strategy, one that leverages a proven methodology enabled by software automation, addresses these challenges making operators more effective during abnormal situations.

Participants attending Proclad Academy’s Advanced Alarm Management training course will learn and apply best practices in alarm management using real world examples and tools. They will return to their jobs not only with a better understanding of alarm management best practices but also equipped with a set of practical set of techniques, procedures and tools to optimise their alarm management system to increase the productivity, efficiency, product quality, safety, integrity, and security of their processes.

The key features of Proclad Academy’s Advanced Alarm Management training course are:

  • A review of P&ID diagrams, process control, and process safeguarding
  • Alarm management principles and alarm philosophy
  • Alarm identification and rationalization
  • Alarm design, implementation, operation and maintenance
  • Alarm performance monitoring and assessment
  • Use of hands-on tools for alarm rationalization, design, implementation, and operation

PLC & SCADA Technologies

The PLC system is the major key in the technology and industrial sector today. PLC or Programmable Logic Controller is the system that makes machinery and systems work automatically. It incorporates three basic features of input, process, and output where everything has to go along well and harmoniously. When it comes to data collection and monitoring, SCADA is the solution. The industry encompassing myriad segments depends on SCADA for automation of multiple industrial tasks. Uninterrupted control of applications and processes and maximising the power of information is easy with SCADA. It controls large-scale processes that may encompass large distances and multiple sites, besides industrial and infrastructure processes.

This highly practical training course covers the essentials of PLC and SCADA systems, and designed to provide the participants with practical up-to-date information on the application of PLC’s and SCADA to the automation and process control of plants and factories. The training aims to give practical advice to assist in the correct planning, programming and installation of PLC with a shorter learning curve and more confidence. The emphasis of the course will be on practical industry topics highlighting recent developments using case studies. The latest application of PLC and SCADA technologies and the fundamentals of PLC and SCADA systems will be covered.

The key features of Proclad Academy’s PLC & SCADA Technologies training course are:

  • Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Learn how remote sensing and actuation are combined with modern communication techniques to effectively monitor and control very large industrial processes—like those used in oil fields, pipelines, and electrical power systems
  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and architecture, configuration, installation, maintenance, and programming.
  • Major SCADA applications, SCADA system components, and architecture.
  • Updated on the latest developments in PLC and SCADA systems
  • A solid appreciation of the fundamentals of PLC, SCADA and Telemetry design, installation and troubleshooting.

Instrumentation & Control Systems

Over the last few decades, dependency on instrumentation equipment has increased tenfold. All of the major industries (Mining, Oil and Gas, Chemical Plants, etc.) have benefited from this technology, with noticeable improvements in quality, production and record keeping. Unfortunately, due to the rapid expansion of instrumentation technology, many people have started to review this as a grey area, understandable only to the select few.

This highly practical Proclad Academy training course aims to demystify the field of Instrumentation & Control Systems. Furthermore, it hopes to promote closer synergy between non-instrumentation and instrumentation personnel, which can only be to the benefit of each operation. Exercises involve programming and/or configuring single-loop Digital Controllers, PLC, SCADA & Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to implement and test the control strategies on typical industrial processes.

The key features of Proclad Academy’s Instrumentation & Control Systems training course are:

  • Control systems and process dynamics
  • Process control engineering
  • Instrumentation and control systems design
  • Process control and safety systems

Flow Measurement & Metering

Flow is the most commonly measured variable in most refinery and chemical processes, whether the process is continuous, or batch in nature. Many processes are controlled by varying the flow of a fluid, be it reflux to a pipe still or fractionator column, heating medium to a reboiler, fuel to a fired heater, or the discharge rate from a separator. Accurate measurement and control of gas/fluid flow is also critical from an economic point of view, since practically any gas/fluid that flows through a plant has a price tag attached to it. Control of flow is generally quite straightforward and easily accomplished, usually, the difficulty lies in selecting the proper measurement device.

In this highly intensive Proclad Academy training course, participants will gain sound understanding and extend their knowledge of flow measurement and custody transfer systems, principles and types, and how to assess their impact on the strategic and tactical aspirations of the company. In general, flow measurements can be grouped into four categories: Basic measurement for process monitoring and regulatory control; Unit material balances; Accounting information for custody transfer (product sales); Information required by State or Federal regulatory bodies for permitting.

The key features of Proclad Academy’s Flow Measurement & Metering training course are:

  • The laws governing fluids and gases
  • Important principles of flow-metering including accuracy and repeatability
  • Main types and applications of Flow meters with emphasis on custody transfer
  • Flow meter proving and calibration techniques
  • Custody transfer principles and applications
